Hello! Welcome to my web site. I love working at Malone Middle and reading. My goal is to make my students feel the same way about the Middle School and reading. Our reading curriculum incorporates A Curricular Plan for the Reading Workshop, Grade 6 and Grade 6 ELA Module 1 EngageNY.org. At all times, students should have an IRP (Individual Reading Program) book. Students can pick their IRP book from my room, the school library, or from home. The only stipulation is the book should be at the student's reading level. Students should have a book in progress at all times and read outside of class every day. This book is also used during class. Students will read, discuss, and write about it during class to build reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary while meeting Common Core Standards. The reading goal for 6th grade is for each student to read 3,000 pages during the school year and develop an appreciation for literature
Students should expect to spend one half hour each school night on reading homework. This may include reading their IRP book, completing a reading response, or working on a project or report.
